Snowdrops
SANDWICH COVERED IN SNOW-DROPS You know when spring is finally on the way in when the snowdrops appear in St Peter’s Churchyard. Massed around the base of the ancient plane tree they are the first declaration that the winter chills are abating and there are warmer days ahead.
Also regularly appearing among the snowdrops and throughout the year are fresh roses, or carnations, or other flowers. They are replaced every week by a local resident who, according to the florist at The Flower Basket just opposite the churchyard on King Street, leaves them in memory of her Nan, who always loved to come to the churchyard to enjoy a few hours of peace and quiet during the day.
Another small story from Sandwich.
