ST PETER’S GREEN THUMB 2A

Oooops!

No sooner than I get a blog off when something immediately happens which necessitates another blog.!

Only yesterday I sent off my ST PETER’S GREEN THUMB 2 then I go back today and discover what was described as ‘an arbor arch to be installed at the top of the steps for rambling roses’ … Has Arrived!!!

And is waiting to be cemented in to position.

Note that the bench that has always been a popular resting spot at this level is back where it has always been….. once more.

Which brings me to a far more important oversight left out of yesterday’s blog.

What about the numerous bedding plants that have been tucked into their new beds?

Where did they come from?

Other than from God, Of course.

Well, this is what Jan, our intrepid garden volunteer writes:

“The Co Op regularly donate end of sales bedding plants and bulbs…

“…Steve Edney, the Head Gardner from the Salutation gave me plants last Autumn which I gave to Chris and Angela, the people who do the inner garden…

“…The Fruit Bowl give me pots of bulbs and occasional plants which might not sell…

“…as well as Tracy Hadley-Lawrence who has the Thursday and Saturday plant stall in the Guildhall Market has also given me plants and discounts from the ones I buy for St Peter’s…

“….Gardener Paul Shrubb had given plants which he has split up for clients…

“… and I put in my window box plants when I renew them!”

So… the next time you walk through St Peter’s churchyard… (Please Pick Up After Your Dog!)… and are able to visit the newly re-planted South Aisle gardens which most of the time is accessible through St Peter’s itself…

… give a thought to the generosity of those who donated the plants as well as the VALIANT VOLUNTEERS…

(no longer the Volunteer Vandals – see the note above posted in February and check out the blog DIGGING UP ST PETER Feb 11th & !2th which offers a reminder of how spectacularly the garden restoration has come on since then)…

… who work so hard to nurture and create gardens that all Sandwich can enjoy.
